Look up the term “Great Expectations” on the Internet and you’re likely to find a picture of NASCAR driver Joey Logano. At the age of fifteen he was anointed “the real deal” by one of the greats of the sport Mark Martin. Upon his arrival on to the NASCAR scene he was given the moniker “sliced bread” by driver Randy Lajoie as in reference to him being the “greatest thing since”. That is a ton of pressure to put on a racer that was little more than a kid when he buckled into his first Sprint Car and Nationwide races in 2008 but he certainly has not wilted under it. In fact, even under the pressure of taking over the number 20 ride from legend and former Gibbs stable member Tony Stewart, Logano has managed to excel under the bright spotlight. So let us take a look at Joey Logano. Joey Logano was born on May 24, 1990 in Middletown, Connecticut. You have all hear stories of athletes who have excelled at a young age, but Logano really did blossom at a much earlier age than most. How about six years old! That’s right; Logano took to the track at that ripe young age as the driver of a quarter midget racer. Even more astounding was the following year he would win an Eastern Grand National Championship in the Jr. Stock Car division. Imagine that, a Grand National champ at the tender age of seven. Oh but he was not done by a long shot. In 1998 he followed up his incredible feat from the year previous with another title, the Junior Honda division championship, the went out in 1999 and won the Lt. Model Division Championship along with 3 New England Regional Championships, which he did in the categories of Sr Stock, along with Lt Model and Lt. B. division. It was clear that the youngster had a gift beyond his years, so his family decided to move farther south to pursue his dream. The success followed him south to Georgia, where he immediately won a Bandolero Series Championship at the age of 10. The hits kept coming. Next up he tried out Legends car racing and found that to his liking posting a consecutive win streak record of 14 at Atlanta Speedway. At age 12, he even managed to win a National Championship at this level, taking the Pro Legends Southeast title.
